The former Carolina Panthers MVP quarterback is now a New England Patriot. Several months back, we expected him to be fully healthy before training camp. Obviously, COVID-19 has slowed down the ability to get a physical done and this could be the reason Newton was still available so late in the offseason (as well as his late release after the QB "musical chairs" was mostly done). The incentive-laden contract is a typical Patriots transaction and low risk move. Newton has two recent shoulder surgeries and coming off Lisfranc foot surgery but all past ailments should be not be an issue for the Newton in 2020. Fitting in with a new team and learning a new system will be the bigger challenge, but if Newton buys into the Patriots offense and runs only when he has to and not as part of the primary scheme, it may help him from the injury perspective. It will be interesting to see if Jarrett Stidham or Newton will be the starter, but the health of Newton should not be a part of the equation moving forward.
