In 2018, McCoy was one of three Redskins players who had three or more surgeries to the same regional injury. McCoy had multiple surgeries on his broken fibula. He was rushed back to play during the 2018 season as the Redskins were still grasping at hopes of making the playoffs. Alex Smith had well over a dozen surgeries on his broken leg and Derrius Guice had multiple surgeries after ACL reconstruction led to an infection which caused him to miss all of 2018. McCoy was not able to start the season as he was relegated to third string and the bench for the majority of the year. Their were reports that he wasn't ready to start the 2019 season which ultimately cost him a chance to compete for the Redskins starting job. If McCoy gets another chance in 2020, he should be given a fair chance to compete as his gruesome leg injury seems to be in the rearview.
