Drew Brees has stated his intention to return for the Saints this season and there is no reason they shouldn't get the deal done. Reports have suggested that Brees could sign as early as Wednesday morning. The Saints quarterback injured his thumb in Week 2, tearing his ulnar collateral ligaments which led to surgery. Brees missed five games but the Saints didn't miss a beat as Teddy Bridgewater led them to five consecutive wins. Going forward there should be no ill effects from the thumb injury suffered last year. Being 41 is the main medical issue Brees is facing as he heads into free agency.
