Quintez Cephus To Have Surgery on Broken Collarbone, Potential For End of Season Return

Lions second-year wide receiver Quintez Cephus reportedly suffered a broken collarbone against the Vikings Sunday and will miss a significant chunk of the season. By video, Cephus was landed on by a Vikings defenders Xavier Woods and Harrison Smith on a catch and run late in the second quarter. At the time, we thought Cephus likely suffered an AC joint sprain, but the extent of the impact was clearly more serious. The 23-year-old has a chance to return in the final month of the season after having a plate and screws inserted. However, it will depend on if Detroit is in contention during late December/early January. If the 0-5 Lions are not in the playoff hunt, it would be wise to hold Cephus out rather than rush him back into action.

Wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond will see increase targets in Cephus' absence and fourth-stringer KhaDarel Hodge will likely fill in as a short-term replacement. No. 1 receiver Tyrell Williams remains on IR from a concussion he suffered Week 1. He is eligible to return Week 6 against the Bengals.
