Rays Injury Report: Manuel Margot, Kevin Kiermaeir Leave Injured Against Yankees

Tampa Bay lost Monday's game 4-2 against the Yankees and also lost two key outfielders, likely for a significant stretch.

Manuel Margot, who leads the team hitting .302, injured his right knee in the top of the 9th inning while attempting to catch a drive off the wall from Aaron Hicks.

Margot collided with the wall and landed awkwardly on his right leg, then immediately fell to the ground in pain. He left the field on a cart and Vidal Brujan took over in right field.

After the game, Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters that Margot is dealing with a right knee sprain that will likely send him to the IL. Cash also said he believed Margot would miss “significant time.”

Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier was replaced by a pinch hitter in the 5th inning and Cash said he's dealing with left hip inflammation that would likely also require an IL stint.

The defensive specialist appeared to favor his hip after striking out against Garrett Cole in the 2nd inning.

The length of his IL trip will likely depend on how quick the inflammation subsides and what was causing it. Kiermaier is hitting .229 this season with 7 home runs and 17 RBIs.

The Rays, 36-31, play two more games in the series against the Yankees, then Pittsburgh comes to town for a three-game series this weekend.
