Dalvin Cook was our breakout/comeback player last year after tearing his ACL in 2017 and enduring a rough 2018 season. He didn't disappoint with 300 plus touches and more than 1,600 combined yards in 14 games. Cook played through a right SC joint (collarbone at sternum) injury late season and then suffered a separate left shoulder issue causing an end to his regular season, although he did return in the playoffs. There were rumors that he needed shoulder surgery, but we have not received confirmation that he has. We believe that Cook is poised to have another productive season although Alexander Mattison might rob some touches and there is still the contract concern. Those are bigger worries than his overall health.

Last year's preseason injury preview Dalvin Cook post here for reference.

Dalvin Cook RB – After suffering an ACL tear in 2017, Cook struggled to stay healthy in 2018 after injuring his hamstring during the Vikings Week 2 overtime tie. Cook proceeded to miss five of the next six games. He was able to play the last 6 games of the year but only went over 100 yards rushing once while only scoring two touchdowns. After averaging 18.5 carries a game before the ACL tear, he averaged just over 12 a game in 2018. The team tried to pass it off as hamstring ‘tightness” and that it was unrelated to the ACL. The reality is that it was a strain/partial tear and was related to the ACL recovery. Given the offseason and an additional year, it is reasonable to expect Cook to return to pre-ACL form. He practiced during OTAs with Zimmer saying he looks “really, really good.” This time, the team can be believed as I would not be surprised if he comes back with a big season. In fact, Cook had an 85-yard touchdown run in the third preseason game.
