Reds Injury Reports: Jonathan India Aggravates Hamstring, Luis Castillo Set For Debut

The struggling Reds will have to trudge on without possibly their best position player, Jonathan India, as he heads back to the IL.

Jonathan India Injury Update

India is expected to miss multiple weeks after aggravating his hamstring strain last week, according to manager David Bell.

Bell said yesterday that India and the Reds knew he was at risk of re-injury, and his hamstring was not good enough to return. He added that, despite reports, India will not miss four-to-six weeks.

The 25-year-old middle infielder initially suffered the injury running out an infield single on April 14. He was placed on the 10-day IL and returned on April 26, but only played in four games before again injuring his right hamstring on April 29.

Cincinnati, 3-21, has lost nine games in a row and 20 of its last 21 games and will now be without the 2021 NL Rookie of The Year. The Reds are likewise a league-worst 6-18 against the spread.

India has joined the likes of Joey Votto, Tyler Naquin, Nick Senzel, and Donovan Solano on the IL. Vottom Naquin, and Senzel were each added to the COVID-19 reserve list after exhibiting symptoms on Wednesday.

Luis Castillo Injury Update

Reds' ace, Luis Castillo, is expected to make his season debut on Monday after opening the season on the IL with right shoulder soreness.

Castillo had never missed a start or spent any time on the IL in his five-year career heading into this season and led MLB with 33 starts in 2021. He has made several rehab starts in preparation for his debut.

The 29-year-old was likely another victim of the truncated spring training, which has caused an uncommon number of soft-tissue injuries and soreness for pitchers and position players alike.

Castillo has been among the most popular names thrown out in trade rumors, considering his durability, consistency, and the Reds' standings and aging roster.

Reds World Series Odds

The Reds are +50,000 to win the NL central, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
