We went back and reviewed Christian McCaffrey’s carries while we await studying the all-22 coaches film. So far we do not see a specific play with a significant injury, but reports point to a high ankle sprain which could lead to a four to six week absence. We analyzed a carry with 44 seconds left on which he gained 5 yards and was tackled by Lavonte David. Momentarily his right ankle may have been trapped with an external rotation movement. This would indicate a potential very mild high ankle sprain in which he continued to play including a late touchdown score. It is possible that high ankle sprains have delayed swelling and at this point solely on video study, we remain optimistic that McCaffrey will not miss the four to six weeks that has been reported. The Panthers have not placed him on injured reserve yet which is a good sign as the injured reserve minimum stay is now just three games.
