Rhys Hoskins Injury: Phillies' First Baseman Out for Season with Severe Knee injury

Update: An MRI confirmed the video analysis from our panel of doctors, Hoskins suffered an ACL tear and will undergo ACL reconstruction surgery. Hoskins is a free agent next offseason.

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins appeared to suffer a severe left knee injury while attempting to field a grounder during Thursday’s spring training game against the Tigers.

By video, the mechanism of Hoskins’ knee injury is consistent with an ACL tear, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.

The 30-year-old first baseman was carted off the field after being examined by medical staff after the non-contact injury.

Hoskins appeared to undergo an on-field exam to check his ACL.

He will undergo an MRI to evaluate the damage. If confirmed, he will miss the entire 2023 season.

Hoskins hit .246 in 156 games last season with 30 home runs and 79 RBIs. He also had 6 home runs in 69 at bats during the Phillies’ postseason run, the first of his career.

Philadelphia has multiple options to fill in at first, including Darick Hall, Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm.

Philadelphia Phillies World Series Odds

The Phillies have the eighth-best odds to win the World Series at +1500, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Despite the loss of Hoskins, their odds may increase with the early return of Bryce Harper, as detailed here.
