Ricky Rubio Carried Off With Significant Left Knee Injury, Worry For ACL Tear

Cavaliers' point guard Ricky Rubio suffered a worrisome left knee injury late in their loss to the Pelicans Tuesday night, as the 31-year-old had to be helped off the floor by his teammates.

Based on video, the ProBasketballDocs are concerned that Rubio suffered a re-injury to his previously-torn left ACL. Rubio tore the ligament, in addition to his left LCL, in March of 2012, his rookie season. During the play tonight, his left knee appears to shift, which is an indicator of serious injury.

The team announced after the game that he will get an MRI on Wednesday to determine the severity of the injury.

The 11-year pro appeared to take a bad step while driving to the basket with 2:20 left in the game. He immediately went to the ground, clutching his left leg right above the kneecap, and had to be supported off the floor as he could not put any weight on his left leg.

The Cavs, who are one of many teams to be upended by COVID-19 this month, are 5th in the East at 20-14 coming off of a recent 6-game winning streak. Rubio is averaging 12.7 points with 6.5 assists and has stepped in as a guiding force for the team after Collin Sexton was lost for the regular season with a torn left meniscus in early November.
