Ronnie Stanley Undergoes Second Ankle Surgery in Two Years, Done For Season

Ronnie Stanley, the Ravens left tackle, announced he underwent season-ending surgery on his ailing ankle and he has been placed on injured reserve. Last November, he had an ankle fracture and dislocation which required surgery. He did come back and played to start the year, but just wasn't right and missed the last couple games. This surgery was reportedly for repair of the original ankle injury. Reading between the lines, this is a repair of the syndesmotic ligaments between the tibia and fibula. The surgery requires significant healing time and his season is done.

Typically this is a six month recovery timeline for this type of ankle ligament repair. At this point, there is no firm indication that his career is over, but certainly there is concern for a valuable left tackle who got his contract extension right before the catastrophic injury last season.
