Royals Injury Report: Carlos Santana Heads to IL With Right Ankle Issue

The Kansas City Royals, 8-14, will be down a first baseman for at least the next nine days.

Carlos Santana Injury Update

The switch-hitting first baseman was placed on the 10-day IL retroactive to Monday because of right ankle bursitis.

The bursitis diagnosis suggests he's dealing with a chronic issue of ankle inflammation, according to our Pro Baseball Docs.

Swelling should go down with the 10 days of rest, but this could be an issue that reemerges for Santana.

Injury Impact on the Royals

Ryan O'Hearn will likely see more time at first base, with Hunter Dozier remaining as the primary designated hitter.

Royals World Series Odds

Kansas City is +3000 to win the AL Central and +20000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
