It has now been reported that Russell Wilson injured his middle finger and sustained two separate injuries. He suffered the mallet finger that we reported on earlier and a comminuted fracture dislocation. These are in different spots in the finger which doesn't make sense leading to several lingering questions. First of all, if he had a comminuted dislocated finger, why was he allowed back on to the field and even attempt a pass as he did before exiting. Wilson was constantly testing his grip on the sidelines and wouldn't have been able to if his finger was in fact unstable. Also, X-rays post-game were negative. This is a very unusual set of injuries as "the bicycle chain does't usually break in two spots" meaning its rare for two separate injuries like this to happen but that seems to be the case here. Our early week optimism for return was based solely on a mallet finger injury and that obviously changes with the news. Wilson was given a 6-8 week timeline and we are relatively optimistic he can return earlier, reaching a target date of Week 10. In a month, Wilson should be able to have worked around throwing with the pin and the fracture should be healed enough to play the Packers.
