The center position was a major focus of Tampa Bay’s joint practice with the Dolphins on Wednesday, as injured veteran Ryan Jensen returned to practice for the first time since his knee injury and fill-in starter Robert Hainsey left on a cart.
Ryan Jensen Injury Update
It's been two weeks since Jensen went down with a significant knee injury on July 28 and there has been no official diagnosis from Tampa Bay or Jensen.
Neither are required to disclose the specific nature of the ailment, which Pro Football Doc said at the time was at best a Grade 3 MCL sprain but just as likely a torn ACL and MCL.
The Buccaneers have claimed several times they are still evaluating Jensen's left knee, but they would have known what he suffered right away, according to the Docs.
The 6'4" 320-pound lineman appearing at practice – at one point even standing and bearing weight on the injured knee – is great to see, but he was wearing an immobilizer that prevents his knee from bending and putting stress on his ligaments.
While we wait for the Buccaneers' official diagnosis, Pro Football Doc believes that the best-case scenario for Jensen is that he's months away from returning, while the worst-case remains that he's out for the season.
Robert Hainsey Injury Update
Jensen's backup, second-year converted tackle Robert Hainsey, suffered from cramps and had to be carted off the field during the two-minute drill at the end of practice.
Head coach Todd Bowles said Hainsey's cramps, which came about in the mid-90s humid climate, aren't serious, but he didn't confirm whether Hainsey would play in the Bucs' preseason opener Saturday against Miami.
