Saints CB Marshon Lattimore To Undergo Thumb Surgery

Marshon Lattimore, the Saints corner, just signed his big contract and now is week to week with a thumb injury that will require surgery. It is not clear the specific type of thumb injury, whether it is a fracture fracture, dislocation or ligament tear, but in any case surgery has been reported. At this point, our best analysis is that he has a chance to avoid an IR stint. The best case scenario would be to miss this next week due to the tenderness and soreness from surgery in the incision and return to play Week 3 with some sort of thumb cast or club. This would allow him to play coverage, but certainly wouldn't inhibit his ability for any interceptions. With this option there would at least be a reasonable chance that he can avoid injured reserve, even with the announcement of surgery.
