Saints' Michael Thomas Announces He'll Miss Rest of Season Due To New Ankle Issue

Michael Thomas, the Saints' star wideout, announced Wednesday that he will miss the remainder of the season because he is dealing with a new issue in his injured ankle. Thomas started the season on the PUP list after undergoing surgery on his ankle in June. There has been no confirmed news on the new issue in his ankle, but ProFootballDoc believes it could be an osteochondral (OCD) lesion from the initial/recurring trauma. OCD lesions are characterized by a loss of blood supply to one or more bones in the ankle, usually resulting in a fracture within the ankle joint. Whatever the issue is, we hope/expect he will be ready for the start of next season.

Thomas can be dropped in all fantasy formats. Marquez Callaway and Tre'Quan Smith will continue to get a bulk of the targets in Thomas' absence, but Jameis Winston is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL last week. Backup quarterback Taysom Hill returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since his Week 5 concussion. Trevor Siemian would start if Hill can't clear concussion protocol in time to face the Falcons.
