Sam Darnold could be out multiple weeks with mononucleosis. The Jets franchise quarterback has already been declared out of Monday's game against the Browns. With a diagnosis of mononucleosis, this portends an extended absence. The first issue for Darnold is the acute symptoms which vary but can be severe. The second issue is that the liver and/or spleen could be enlarged. One must avoid physical contact for multiple weeks due to the risk of internal organ laceration. The third issue is the general malaise and lack of energy that could be prolonged with this diagnosis. At this point, his teammates should be concerned in terms of him being contagious. The earliest return may be sometime in October but time will tell.
