Today speedy wideout Tavon Austin was placed on injured reserve due to a training camp knee injury. Austin is just the latest receiver to injure himself as he was just recently signed receivers Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, J.J. Nelson and Richie James all sidelined. Nelson and Austin were brought in due to Samuel and Aiyuk being injured leaving the 49ers without many options at receiver. The situation may force San Francisco to bring back Samuel from his foot fracture which would be less than ideal. The 49ers may stroll into Week 1 with Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor and Dante Pettis forcing star tight end George Kittle to show why he was given a 5-year $75 million dollar deal in the offseason. The play is to avoid the 49ers pass offense Week 1 and season-long players will hope Kittle reaps the benefits of having no competition for targets.
