Saquon Barkley Injury Update

NFL

The Giants star running back provided a scare to fans when he decided to fly out for a second opinion. As stated here, the second opinion was never a worry. It is routine to seek out a second opinions especially when your talking about a multi week absence. The worry was potential surgery but we never felt that was realistic even though high ankle surgeries have been recently publicized at the collegiate level. This is still not the norm in professional sports unless the ankle joint is unstable or widened where there is a complete tear of the syndesmotic ligament which by video is not the case. Expect Barkley to get or already have received a platelet plasma injection (PRP) to help speed the healing. Barkley will be in a boot for the next several weeks and a sign a progress will be when he can bear weight on the foot. He looks likely to avoid injured reserve and to return before the mandatory eight game absence.
