Reports have surfaced saying Barkley is headed towards a second opinion on his ankle. Many have speculated the possibility of surgery. Based on video analysis, I do not believe Barkley has instability with separation of the two bones in his ankle. I do not believe he needs surgery although the profile of high ankle surgery has been raised after the collegiate national championship game. There are several key reasons why I believe that does not apply here. The original one month timeline for time missed without going on injured reserve and missing 8 games is still in play. Surgery does not speed up recovery in these instances. Don't be surprised if news breaks out of a possible platelet rich plasma injection as that may speed up the recovery timeline.
