Angels' starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani left Saturday's start ahead of the sixth inning with a right finger blister.
The two-way star took his next at-bat in the seventh inning, striking out on a 3-2 fastball, and was replaced by Jo Adell in the ninth.
Ohtani struck out seven Astros and gave up one run in five innings, moving the AL MVP and Cy Young candidate to 12-8 and dropping his ERA to 2.55.
The 28-year-old also clocked the fastest pitch of his career, according to statcast, a 101.4 MPH fastball to end the fourth inning.
Ohtani has worked through multiple injuries this season without missing a start, including a groin strain, back soreness, and back-to-back foot contusions from a comebacker and a foul ball in late August.
