SIC Injury Mismatch: Arizona Cardinals Against Detroit Lions

Injury Advantage: Cardinals Defense

To say the Lions are depleted on offense would be an understatement. This season they have lost start tight end T.J. Hockenson, wide receivers Tyrell Williams and Quintez Cephus, plus center Frank Ragnow.

Detroit could also be without both starting running backs as well. D’Andre Swift will miss the contest with a shoulder injury and backup Jamaal Williams remains on the COVID reserve list. Williams is eligible to come off the COVID list Monday, but could clear before the home game under the NFL’s new testing rules.

The Cardinals are down defensive end J.J. Watt and cornerback Robert Alford, but are otherwise healthy.

Secondary Advantage: Cardinals Offense

Despite the loss of star wideout DeAndre Hopkins, the Cardinals shouldn’t have any issues in the passing game. The Lions have their No. 2 and 3 corners on IR, plus three others on the COVID reserve list.

Detroit could also be down its entire linebacking crew if Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Alex Anzalone can’t play through their shoulder and ankle injuries, respectively.

Arizona could also get starting running back Chase Edmonds back from injured reserve, a welcomed addition with James Conner nursing an ankle injury.
