SIC Matchup Analysis: Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants

Injury Advantage: Bears Defense

Giants head coach Joe Judge said the team may use a platoon of Jake Fromm and Mike Glennon this week against the Bears. With Daniel Jones out the rest of the season with a neck injury, that is what New York has left at quarterback.

The Giants offense has been dismal pretty much the whole season. Don’t expect it to take a turn now, especially given the team’s injury woes.

New York has not had a quarterback pass for over 200 yards since Week 12 and have not had a running back rush for over 100 yards this season. Devontae Booker came the closest with 99 yards in Week 9, but Saquon Barkley’s highest total this season is 64 in Week 14.

The Bear did give up 135 rushing yards to Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny last week, but were without key run stopper Akiem Hicks that game.

Hicks remains on the COVID reserve list, but will likely clear in time to play this Sunday.

The Giants, meanwhile, have Kenny Golladay as the only healthy receiver on the roster. Kadarius Toney, Colin Johnson and John Ross were all ruled out for the game, plus Darius Slayton was placed on the COVID reserve list Friday.

Secondary Advantage: Bears Run Offense

The Giants have given up over 100 yards rushing for three straight weeks and in 10 of their 15 games this season.

They have been without linebacker Blake Martinez and Jabrill Peppers for a majority of the season, plus they will likely be without defensive end Dexter Lawrence this week after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Nose tackle Austin Johnson is dealing with a foot injury and New York is down to its third strong safety in Xavier McKinney.

These ingredients all point to a great game for Bear running back David Montgomery, but that will likely depend on who starts at quarterback for Chicago.

Rookie Justin Fields was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, while Andy Dalton is fully recovered from a groin injury that kept him out last week.

Head coach Matt Nagy told reporters this week that Fields needs to be "extremely healthy" to start this week, meaning he will likely play Dalton.

Nagy could also opt to go with Nick Foles for a second straight week, but that remains to be seen.
