The gameday worry for the Giants receiver was turf toe but there was no clear video. The defender fell on the back of Shepherd's legs and now a national report confirms a turf toe injury. A turf toe injury is a sprain of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint of the big toe. It inhibits a receiver's ability to get off the line of scrimmage, accelerate, push off, run and cut. His absence will depend on if the plantar plate is torn. Severe cases of turf toe can mean surgery at end of season but that is not likely the case here. Although mild, this injury could cost him multiple weeks. See Phillip Lindsay.
