From Weeks 1-9 the Eagles were remarkably healthy and rolled comfortably to an 8-0 start with 28.125 points, 391 total yards, and 16.875 points against for a +80 differential while scoring 16 rushing touchdowns.
Mid-season: Defensive Mainstays Head To IR
On October 30, rookie defensive tackle Jordan Davis suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 8 and missed four games on IR.
His absence spurred mid-season defensive line additions, incl. Robert Quinn, Ndamukong Suh, and Linval Joseph, which helped the Eagles to 41 sacks over the final eight games and another eight in the NFC playoffs.
The following Thursday, November 3, nickel cornerback Avonte Maddox suffered a hamstring strain, missed four games and returned in Week 14.
From Weeks 10-12 (after their win over the Texans), the defense allowed 27 points per game on 66.3% completion rate and 7.9 yards per attempt.
On November 27, playmaking safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson suffered an abdominal injury in Week 12 win that included a lacerated kidney and missed five games on IR.
In these contests, the Eagles defense allowed 22.4 points with 882 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions on 71.9% completion and made 32 sacks for 219 yards.
Late-Season: Birds Survive Offensive Injuries, Get Top Seed
Meanwhile, on offense, Dallas Goedert suffered a shoulder sprain in Week 10, missed five games on IR and returned in Week 16, and wideout DeVonta Smith took advantage of the extra targets with 49 receptions for 715 yards and four scores over the last eight games of the season.
On December 24, Jalen Hurts suffered a right SC joint sprain and finished win vs. Bears but missed Week 16 and 17, including a divisional loss to the Cowboys.
The next week, right tackle Lane Johnson suffered a torn adductor muscle and missed the last two games of the regular season before he returned in the playoffs.
Without those two cornerstones, the Eagles went 1-2 in the final three games with 22 points per game and 3.7 yards per carry and had three passing touchdowns, four interceptions and nine sacks taken for 50 yards, but survived to claim the No. 1 seed.
With Hurts, Johnson, Gardner-Johnson, Goedert, and Maddox healthy and available, Philadelphia rolled its way to the Super Bowl with a 38-7 win over the Giants and 31-7 win over the 49ers on 416 rushing yards and seven scores, a four-to-zero turnover ratio, and a 51-to-24 first down advantage.
