This week in Miami, Ryan Fitzpatrick was back in charge of the offense as Tua Tagovailoa sat out with a thumb injury. This was a practice injury so we don’t have video, but it was to his throwing thumb which explains the caution in handling him. Because the Dolphins are in the wild card hunt, they have to manage this situation carefully and not place a young quarterback in the line of fire without practice reps. Fitzpatrick may be the safer option at this point, and after reports of Tagovailoa having swelling and pain in his hand, it may be the veteran’s job for the next several weeks.
