Taylor Heinicke Dealing With Contusions to Right Elbow, Left Knee

Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke was sacked four times in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys and is nursing contusions to his left knee and right elbow.

Head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday that Heinicke's elbow and knee are "sore," but agreed with Heinicke's statement that he should be good to go for Sunday's matchup against the Eagles.

By video, we didn't see a significant injury mechanism for either the elbow injury or the knee injury. Heinicke appeared to injure his elbow near the end of the first quarter when he was sacked by Cowboys defender Micah Parsons.

The 28-year-old Washington quarterback missed one play while getting checked in the injury tent, then returned. He was one for six on deep throws the rest of the game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Heinicke was sacked by Neville Gallimore and limped off. By video, we believe Heinicke suffered a left knee contusion. Kyle Allen filled in at quarterback for the rest of the fourth quarter.

If Heinicke does start next Sunday against Philadelphia, he will likely be under pressure often.

Washington is down to its fourth-string center after Tyler Larsen suffered a torn Achilles Sunday. Left tackle Charles Leno Jr. left Sunday's game with a back injury and did not return. Right tackle Sam Cosmi is out for the rest of the season with a hip injury.
