Taylor Lewan, the Titans pro bowl left tackle, was placed on a spine board and was carted to the locker room, reportedly to be checked for a concussion. With just under 5 minutes left in the half against the Bills, Lewan dove to block on a Derrick Henry run and landed headfirst into a pile. He appeared to jam his head into somebody's back, then lay motionless face down. Lewan was carted off the field in cervical restraints and he did give a thumbs up and Shaka sign with the right side. Notably, medical personnel was still holding on to his left hand, but the news that he was being checked for a concussion is a great sign.
Anytime there is a potential neck injury, the concern is always related to the radicular nature and nerves related to the injury. At this point, he certainly does not appear to have a spinal cord injury, which is good news. He's likely to get X rays and three dimensional imaging in the form of a CT scan or MRI to rule out any neck injury. Precautionary immobilization is never bad idea when a potential neck injury is involved.
