Teddy Bridgewater Suffers Head Injury, Second of the Season

Teddy Bridgewater, the Broncos starting quarterback, suffered a head injury in the third quarter against the Bengals.

By video, Bridgewater jumped up in the air and landed hard on his head, appearing to be knocked unconscious. While he was on the ground he had agonal (labored) breathing, which is a concussion symptom.

He was placed on a backboard and carted off the field. Video showed that his eyes were open and he was able to squeeze the trainer's hand.

We expect him to undergo a concussion evaluation and possibly an MRI to ruled out any structural damage to his neck. Based on the injury mechanism, we don't have worry for associated structural damage to the neck.

Bridgewater suffered a concussion in early October, but returned to play the next week. We don't expect him to return as quickly this time, given that it is his second concussion of the season and the third of his career.

Drew Lock will play quarterback the rest of the game and potentially next week as well.

Update

The team announced that Bridgewater suffered a head injury and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. One can never be too safe with head/neck injuries, but we don't think Bridgewater will have to spend the night in the hospital.
