Terry McLaurin Injury: Why Commanders WR May Miss Week 1

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin may miss Week 1 of the regular season with a right big toe injury he suffered in Monday's preseason Week 2 contest against the Ravens.

By video, McLaurin likely suffered a moderate-grade turf toe injury when he was landed on by Baltimore linebacker Kristian Welch, according to the Pro Football Docs.

Terry McLaurin - SIC score 61

Turf toe injuries are tough for wide receivers to play through, especially a keen route runner like McLaurin. The Pro Football Docs have serious doubts about his availability and effectiveness early in the season.

He currently carries a SIC score of 61 for Week 1, reflecting that he will be limited if he plays on Sept. 10 against the Arizona Cardinals.

It also not impossible that he lands on IR to start the season and misses the first four games, but that would be the worst case scenario.

McLaurin was an intriguing fantasy option heading into this season paired with new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. However, the timing of this injury should cast doubt on fantasy players looking to take him at his ADP of 50.7.

Jahan Dotson and Dyami Brown will likely see more targets if McLaurin misses time early in the year.

The Ohio State alumnus played in 17 games in each of the past two seasons, finishing with 1,053 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2021 and 1,191 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2022.
