The number one question I get asked is: “Will the NFL play?” In the wake of the NCAA chaos, and the MLB’s struggles many doubt the NFL season will move forward. I continue to steadfastly believe the NFL will play AND start on time on September 10th. Whether they will finish on schedule and without bumps in the road is a different question. That will depend on compliance of the players away from the team and on the virus itself. My logic and confidence is based on three main factors. First, the market timing worked out perfectly, as they’ve had all spring and summer to plan, and their fall start gives them an edge. Second, they’ve played their cards close to the vest, and while they aren’t playing in a bubble, the plans to keep players safe have turned out to be very effective and promising. Third, both players and owners have a vested interest in playing the 2020 season. Financially, they both need to make the money accrued this season, and medically, players often depend on team facilities for treatment.
