Throwing Not An Issue For Joe Burrow, Might Have To Modify Snaps and Handoffs

Joe Burrow is the latest quarterback to play through a finger issue after dislocating his pinky finger in last Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, projects that Burrow should not have difficulty throwing accurately, but ball security may be an issue on handoffs. He could also reinjure the pinky when taking snaps under center, Chao said.

Burrow appeared to suffer the injury when he was strip sacked early in the first quarter and reached in to grab the fumble. After that play, he completed 22 of his 38 passes for 283 yards, a passing touchdown, a rushing touchdown and two interceptions.

The 25-year-old tried tape and multiple gloves after the injury, then opted to throw with a bare hand. Depending on the swelling, Burrow should be able to use the same grip when throwing because the pinky finger is not integral.

"My bigger worry for Joe Burrow is not his throwing ability, it's the pain tolerance under center and how he has to modify handing the ball off," Chao said.

The Bengals face a 49ers team that will be without its top two cornerbacks and down its starting weakside linebacker.
