Tigers Injury Report: Matt Manning Shut Down During Rehab Stint With Biceps Tendinitis

Tigers righty Matt Manning has been shut down “for the foreseeable future” after experiencing biceps tendinitis during his bid to return from the injured list, manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Thursday night.

Matt Manning Injury Update

Manning has been on the injured list since mid-April with shoulder inflammation.

He began his rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo on May 8, but was pulled early from a start on May 19.

At the time, general manager Al Avila suggested that early exit wasn't because of anything arm related, but rather because the 24-year-old felt light-headed.

Manning started again last Tuesday, but left after 1 ⅔ innings before telling the team about his arm discomfort.

Detroit's pitching staff has been cut thin by injury, with Manning, Casey Mize, Eduardo Rodriguez and Tyler Alexander on IL.

Michael Pineda, a veteran that was expected to replace Alexander, is also on IL. The Tigers are also without Spencer Turnbull, who underwent Tommy John surgery last July.
