The Detroit Tigers and top outfield prospect Riley Greene got disappointing news ahead of the start of the regular season.
Greene suffered a fracture when he fouled a ball directly off his right foot in a spring training game Friday.
The 21-year-old lefty will now be sidelined about six weeks, but will not require surgery on his injured foot, according to the ProBaseballDocs.
Greene was likely to start in the minors anyways to ensure another year of team control, but this injury delays his big league call up.
MLB's No. 5 overall prospect was off to a torrid start during the delayed spring training, hitting .429 with 2 home runs in 21 at-bats.
Assuming every goes well with his recovery, he will likely get called up before the All-Star break.
Until then, Victor Reyes will likely man center field.
