T.J. Hockenson Undergoes Season-Ending Thumb Surgery, Will Be Good For Next Season

T.J. Hockenson, the Lions star tight end, underwent thumb surgery Thursday, effectively ending his season.

If the surgery were done earlier in the year, he probably could have come back by the end of the regular season. But with onlly  four games remaining and the Lions well out of contention, it makes sense for the 24-year-old to get right for next season.

Hockenson suffered the injury Week 13 and missed the Week 14 contest against the Broncos.

It is unclear the type of thumb surgery he underwent. It may be a thumb ulner collateral ligament surgery that is important for his catching. In any case, he should not be affected by the injury going forward.

Shane Zylstra and Brock Wright will fill in at tight end for the upcoming matchup against the Cardinals.
