Update: Pollard's X-rays showed a fractured fibula, the worst form of high-ankle sprain. The Cowboys' season is over, but Pollard's recovery will stretch well into free agency. Stay tuned for his free agent profile detailing his recovery heading into next season.
Cowboys’ explosive running back Tony Pollard suffered a left ankle injury just before halftime and has been ruled out for the remainder of the Divisional Round contest.
By video, Pollard appeared to suffer a left high ankle sprain when a 49ers defender fell into his leg and bent it inwards.
Pollard was carted to the locker room in an air cast and ruled out after halftime.
He will undergo and X-ray to rule out a fracture and an MRI to evaluate the ligament damage. Either way, he’s unlikely to be available in the next round of the Cowboys advance.
Pollard had a career-high 371 yards receiving and three touchdowns this season and was quarterback Dak Prescott's go to outlet when he faced pressure.
Without his trusted outlet in the passing game, Prescott threw a tight window pass picked off by 49er linebacker Fred Warner.
This injury will be a massive loss for the Cowboys as their running back Ezekiel Elliot is averaging just 3.8 YPC, which is 42nd in the NFL. But Elliot did run for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
Pollard had his first 1,000-yard rushing season this year while averaging 5.2 yards per carry.
