The Raiders right tackle Trent Brown was hospitalized after a "mishap" with the pregame IV. Brown was just removed from the COVID list and was slated to start today, but obviously did not play after air accidentally entered his bloodstream. I fully expect Brown to recover and be fine. I even expect him to practice and play next week for the Raiders. The pre-game IV caused air to enter his bloodstream and prompted immediate medical attention, Brown was wheeled out of the locker room just before the game. Air getting into the bloodstream is not suppose to happen, but it is not deadly like on some TV shows. When it does happen, it usually is not dangerous or deadly unless said person has a heart defect where air can travel from the right side of the blood stream to the left, bypassing the lungs and releasing air into the brain. The lung acts as a filter for the air and the air in the blood stream side of the lung causes discomfort but is not overly dangerous. Again, we fully expect Brown to recover fully and quickly. With any lung discomfort it makes sense to be overly safe and transport him to the hospital. This issue could relate to the difficulties of new procedures given the relocation to Las Vegas and new physicians. This is not related to the Tyrod Taylor punctured lung situation. We expect Brown to fly home tomorrow and rejoin his team and play next week.
