Trent Williams "Adamant" About Playing Through Right Ankle Injury

San Francisco's key left tackle Trent Williams did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable to play against the Rams on Sunday.

Williams did participate in the walkthrough before practice Friday and head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after practice that Williams is "adamant" that he will be able to play.

Shanahan added that he would be surprised if Williams doesn't play, but declined to reveal further details about the ankle injury.

However, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo told reporters that Williams is dealing with a high ankle injury.

Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, has projected all week that Williams will play and said the high ankle injury means Williams will likely get an injection to help manage the pain and swelling.

With the high ankle component, Chao said Williams may have trouble run blocking because it requires him to push off on the ankle.

The 33-year-old should be reasonably effective when stationary, but don't expect any plays with him motioning over to lead the run blocking, Chao said.

He will likely get a tough matchup against Rams star defensive linemen Aaron Donald, who the Rams like to move around based on matchups.

The 49ers are 3.5-point underdogs on the road in Los Angeles this Sunday, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
