Trent Williams will not practice for the 49ers today as he nurses the sprained right ankle he aggravated in last week's win over Green Bay, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters.
Despite the second consecutive missed practice, ProFootballDoc still believes that Williams will start and be effective vs the Rams in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.
Because the 33-year-old is a veteran who understands Shanahan's schemes and can execute them to perfection, having an extra day of rest doesn't hurt.
We expect Williams to be limited Friday and listed as questionable ahead of the Sunday kickoff in Los Angeles.
Williams went through a similar process in Week 8 as he came back from the high ankle sprain that caused kept him out in Week 7 (the current sprain, Shanahan said, has "old components" from the one earlier this season).
That week, he was listed as DNP on Wednesday and Thursday before being a limited participant Friday. Williams played in a victory that weekend and posted a 92.7 PFF grade, highest of all offensive linemen that week.
Elijah Mitchell logged a limite practice Thursday and Jimmy Garoppolo was a full participant for a second straight day.
