Trent Williams, the 49ers star left tackle, missed practice Wednesday with a right ankle injury he suffered in the win over the Packers.
However, Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, said he has no doubt the 33-year-old left tackle will play against the Rams this Sunday.
"He can still be effective when not on the move, but may have issues with pushing off on the ankle and in the power run game," Chao said.
The injured ankle could also leave him vulnerable to a power rush on pass protection, Chao said.
Williams will likely log a limited practice Thursday or Friday, then be listed as questionable ahead of the Rams game, Chao said. Expect him to start, but the Rams may target him by moving Aaron Donald over from nose tackle.
By video, the 33-year-old left tackle suffered the injury early in the third quarter on a run block to the left. Williams appeared to slip on his right foot and twist his ankle on the play.
He remained in the game and had his ankle taped before the next offensive series, but was not moving well.
On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Williams has some "old components" in his ankle from a previous injury. He missed Week 7 with a high ankle sprain he suffered Week 5.
While the "old components" may sound bad to fans, it could actually be good news, Chao said, adding that it could mean Williams is dealing with less new damage and swelling.
On the off chance Williams can't play, the 49ers would likely start rookie Jaylon Moore, who has started just three games this season.
The 49ers are 3.5-point underdogs on the road against the Rams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
