"Good news" for the Jets backup quarterback. The way his ankle snapped almost assured it was an unusual fracture, but instead it was an unusual complete tearing of the ligaments and joint capsule in his ankle with no broken bones. Besides his innate toughness, this also explains why he was able to walk on the ankle and into the locker room. This doesn't really change the net result as he needs surgery and his season is done. In some ways the recovery from the soft tissue injury is harder than from a bone fracture. My guess is maybe he drank a lot of milk growing up for his bones to withhold more than his ligaments.
