Upon further review of San Francisco 49ers preseason game, it is clear that Lance jams his throwing hand on a helmet. It is not completely clear whether it's his index finger or his thumb. By video and by how his throws looked after, it appears to be his index finger which is more important for guiding the ball. After he hits his hand, he under-throws one ball that led to a pass interference call, then from the one yard line throws a wobbly ball to the tight end. Lance does return for the second half without tape or anything on his hand, however threw two fairly inaccurate passes before being replaced by Nate Sudfeld. There's no question that index finger or thumb injury has effected him and once again a chip fracture will not heal in seven days. If it's a matter of playing through soreness, maybe he can return, but it seems like this is a much bigger injury for a quarterback than the team is letting on. Regardless, the plans to platoon the first round rookie QB will be placed on hold.
