Trey Lance Suffers Chip Fracture In Finger

The 49ers rookie quarterback who was set to platoon with QB Jimmy Garoppolo is dealing with a chip fracture in his finger. His head coach did not specify which digit, but stated he'd be out for seven days. Certainly, jammed fingers can be problematic but a chip fracture, even more so. Physiologically, there is no way any fracture heals in seven days. The soreness could subside where he could do some things depending on the location of the chip, but the injury will not heal in seven days. If the chip is in the thumb of his throwing hand, the situation is bigger than what the team is letting on. Hopefully he can return to practice and play in seven days as his HC suggests, but there is no way that the chip fracture will heal in that time. Luckily Garoppolo was likely going to win the QB competition leaving Lance ample time to heal on the sidelines.
