Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson suffered a concussion Tuesday night when Padres designated hitter Luke Voit barreled into him while attempting to score.
Stephenson was placed on the 7-day IL as he progresses through concussion protocol.
Voit's late slide became a point of contention after the game, with former Padres outfield Tommy Pham calling the slide “dirty as f---.”
Pham, now the Reds' left fielder, went on to say “If Luke (Voit) wants to settle it, I get down really well. Anything - muy thai, whatever.”
After the game, Stephenson tweeted “only thing that matters is he was out.”
Aramis Garcia will take over the catching duties and Mark Kolozsvary will likely be called up to serve as backup catcher.
The Reds played the Padres at 1:10 p.m. PT today and are 1.5-run underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
