Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith left the game against the Patriots with a left ankle injury. By video, Smith was engaged in a block with just over six minutes left in the third quarter when his left leg was rolled up on from behind by running back Tony Pollard. We have worry for a subtle high ankle sprain. We don't expect Smith to return to the game, but the Cowboys have a bye Week 7 and the left tackle has a good chance to return Week 8 against the Vikings.
Given that he plays on the left side of the line, he primarily uses his right foot to get out on blocks. He also doesn't pull much and remains mostly stationary.
Update
Smith returned to the game late in the fourth quarter with the Cowboys down 1 point.
