Utah Jazz vs Portland Trail Blazers: Jazz Hold Massive Health Edge

Check out this matchup’s Court View here.

The Jazz - SIC score 88.9 have lost 2 of their last 3 games, including a 34-point loss to the Pelicans, but remain as the No. 4 seed in the West.

They have been 2 different teams this season: with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, and without them.

The Jazz are 30-14 with both of their all-stars this season, 35-17 with Mitchell and 34-16 with Gobert. Utah went 2-6 during Mitchell’s 8-game absence with a concussion during January, and has gone 9-3 in the 12 games since he returned.

Mitchell is free and clear tonight, but Gobert is dealing with a sore calf that has slowed him to 11.3 points per game and a plus-1 plus-minus the last 3 games.

He is no longer on the injury report, but the calf soreness can linger.

The Jazz had 5 different players score over 15 points, including Hassan Whiteside, Jordan Clarkson, and Mike Conley, the last time these teams played on December 29.

The Trail Blazers - SIC score 60.4 have completely shifted to embracing their youth movement in the 2nd half of the season after losing Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic to long-term injuries and trading away CJ McCollum and Norman Powell for Josh Hart and Justise Winslow, among other pieces.

The Blazers health score of 60.4 is the lowest score of the season for any NBA team.

Portland, 25-39, has lost 5 games in a row, being outscored by 31.2 points in those 5 contests.

The Blazers will be without Winslow, who is nursing a sore achilles, while emerging point guard Anfernee Simons is questionable with a quad issue, although there is no indication the injury is severe.

22-year-old guard Brandon Williams, who recently signed a 2-year deal with Portland, is averaging 17.2 points on .482/.381/.750 shooting splits in his last 5 games. He scored 27 points with 8 rebounds while getting to the line 16 times in Monday’s 43-point loss to the Timberwolves.

Potential Plays:

U221.5 Total Points - The Blazers have hold no offensive threat and the Jazz are a notoriously good defensive team, expect a low scoring affair

Donavan Mitchell O24.5 Points - Although points may be hard to come by, they wont be for Mitchell, catch is he will likely have to do this in 3 quarters as it will likely be a blowout
