Veteran safety Eric Weddle wear the green dot for the Rams defense in Super Bowl LVI, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris told reporters Friday.
The 37-year-old was not on an NFL team in the regular season, but will now relay the calls to teammates in his fourth game of the year.
He played 100% of the defensive snaps last week against the 49ers and led the team with 9 combined tackles.
The move means Weddle will likely see a majority of the snaps against the Bengals and relay the defensive play calls to his teammates.
Weddle, who played with the Rams in 2019, was signed to replace strong safety Jordan Fuller after Fuller suffered a season-ending ankle injury.
Free safety Taylor Rapp has not played in the playoffs while recovering from a concussion, but will make his return in the Super Bowl.
Nick Scott filled in admirably for Rapp and will still likely see a good amount of snaps.
The Rams are 4-point favorites over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
