The new Jets acquisition was placed on the NFI list this week after being diagnosed with a blood disease, which necessitated a splenectomy (spleen removed). Curry developed blood clots which is not uncommon as certain blood disorders/splenectomy can lead to a high risk of blood clots. As a result of the blood clots, Curry will be on blood thinners, which is the cause for him being ruled out. He may have come back from the splenectomy to play this season, but blood thinners are not compatible with the sport of football. Certainly this is bad news for the Jets defense as this rules Curry out for the entire 2021 season. However, there is no reason he can't return in 2022 fully healthy. The assumption is that the blood disorder will be managed and the need for blood thinners, which increase the chance of bleeding, will no longer be needed. This is good news overall for the player and his future but bad news for the Jets as they will now look for help on the defensive line with Carl Lawson and now Curry out for the year.
