Washington Jr. Suffers Minor Knee Injury, Will Be Back For NCAA Tournament

Star freshman guard Tyty Washinton Jr. left No. 5 Kentucky’s win over SEC rival Florida after suffering a left leg injury with 12:50 left in the 2nd half.

Based on initial video, Washington appeared to suffer a low-grade mcl sprain in his left knee that he will be able to return from ahead of the NCAA Tournament. His status for the remainder of the regular season and SEC Tournament, however, is in doubt for No. 5 Kentucky, 21-4, according to our team of ProBasketballDocs.

Washington, who is 2nd on the Wildcats with 12.8 points, 4.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, suffered the injury after his leg got trapped under Florida guard Brandon McKissic after he dove for a loose ball.

The 6’3” freshman slammed his fist on the ground after the play, and after some time on the ground, hobbled off the floor and directly into the locker room.

Washington, who is a projected lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, has been essential to Kentucky’s success: in the Wildcats’ losses to top-5 Duke and Auburn, he combined for 13 points on 5-18 shooting with 1 rebound and 4 assists.

He left the Jan. 22 loss against Auburn after only 9 minutes after rolling his ankle on an awkward landing on teammate Oscar Tshiebwe’s foot.

Without him, they will need greater performances from veteran guards Sahvir Wheeler, Kellan Grady, and Davion Mintz to compete with No. 1 Auburn in the SEC championship.
