As we head into Week 6 of the NFL season, teams are struggling with key injuries that may impact upcoming games. At SICscore.com, we provide expert insights from Dr. David Chao, MD (@ProFootballDoc) and other top sports doctors to help fans and analysts understand the impact of these injuries on the player and team.
Nico Collins - SIC Score 48
The Texans top wideout sustained a hamstring injury on a long touchdown score in Sunday's game Week 5. Head coach DeMeco Ryans first stated Collins was day-to-day before changing tune and saying week to week, he is likely to miss some time but definitely out Week 6.
Josh Allen - SIC Score 94
The Bills QB was evaluated for a concussion in the fourth quarter of today's game after slamming head hard on the ground. Allen sat out one play then returned and post-game head coach Sean McDermott he acknowledged he cleared concussion protocol and was able to go back in game. Expect the elite QB to play on MNF.
Derek Carr - SIC Score 42
New Orleans will be without their starting QB for multiple weeks after taking a hard hit to the ribs late in the fourth quarter of MNF, reported as an oblique issue - this injury is hard for QBs to play through due to the pain felt when the body twists while throwing, Week 8 is a potential return but we wouldn't rule out a return on TNF Week 7 after a week sidelined.
Anthony Richardson - SIC Score 72
The dual threat QB missed the Colts last match due to a hip/oblique. Last week majority of first-team reps in practice went to Joe Flacco - will need to monitor that pattern again this week but there is some optimism from our team at sicscore.com that he could return this week in a another AFC South match (Jaguars was last week).
Jonathan Taylor - SIC Score 43
The Colts bellcow running back logged three straight DNP's in practice and was unable to suit up due to an ankle injury sustained Week 4, expectations are he will again be sidelined as it is hard for an RB to play through this type of injury (see Joe Mixon), Richardson has much better chance to return than Taylor heading into Week 6.
